Autism specialists in Bristol
Autism Bristol was founded by Annie Kingston, a Consultant Speech and Language Therapist who has been working in the field of autism since 2005, working across both the NHS and the independent sector, with both the paediatric and adult population.
Annie leads a team of specialists who together, provide personalised approaches based on their wide range of skills and experience, and each unique situation.
Our Autism Support Team
Annie is a specialist Speech and Language Therapist who graduated from the University of Queensland, Australia. Annie has post-grad training in PECS, Intensive Interaction, Makaton, TEACCH, Post-Basic Dysphagia and SOS feeding. Throughout her experience, Annie has learnt that there are many different ways to facilitate communication and emotional development, based on a person’s skill portfolio and their own personal desire to communicate and interact. Annie is passionate about using fun and enjoyment as the building base for development, as this is when people are relaxed, open to learning new skills and most likely to be successful.
Consultant Speech and Language Therapist
Our Occupational Therapists have worked across the NHS and the independent sector, developing skills in sensory integration, emotional regulation, functional activities of daily living, self-esteem and goal setting. Occupational Therapists are considered essential for identifying the impact autism has on daily function.
Our Clinical Psychologists have worked in specialist autistic diagnostic teams as well as autism specific schools in the independent sector. As well as being trained in the assessment and diagnosis of autism spectrum conditions, Clinical Psychologists work to understand behavioural and emotional components to a person’s presentation, including anxiety. This can include functional analysis of behaviour, contribution to a person’s Positive Support Plan and the creation of strategies to help develop new skills.
Family and School Support Workers
Our team of support staff are trained and experienced in delivering day-to-day support for families and individuals with autism. They work within a person’s home, school or community to practice skills and to provide problem solving in a fast, real time manner.
